Daily camp activities include caring for the horses and cleaning the stalls, a structured riding lesson, plus classroom instruction in horsemanship. The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) manuals are used as a study guide. In addition to riding, campers learn about the care of horses, and participate in tacking them and grooming them. A fun horseback riding activity is held in the afternoon, such as games on horseback, vaulting, a trail ride, or bareback riding. Other activities may include games and crafts.
Equestrian activities are the primary focus at Shady Lawn, so if you love horses, this is the place for you! Instructors certified by the Certified Horseman's Association (CHA) provide riding instruction daily. Summer camps run for 5 ½ days, Monday – Friday then an exhibition riding demonstration is given by campers for their parents on Saturday morning. We offer a Full Day Camp which goes until 6:00 and, for those who wish for a shorter day, an Early Out Day Camp option which gets out at 2:30. Both options include the exhibition on Saturday where the kids arrive at 8:00 do some chores, then prepare their horses for the exhibition which starts at 10:00 and ends about 11:30.
